Mitchell kicked off 2018 with a bang, breaking the record for the most disposals in a VFL/AFL match as he racked up a massive 54. The midfielder was the Hawks’ best with nine clearances, eight inside 50s and 27 contested possessions as they finished 34-point victors over the Pies.

Round 15, 2017

35 disposals, seven marks, seven clearances, two goals

While he may have had a then personal-best 50 disposals in the Hawks’ Round 9 clash with the Pies, Mitchell’s performance this time around was even better. While he may have had less disposals (35), Mitchell hit the scoreboard with two goals and arguably had a greater impact on the result this time around. The umpires agreed, awarding the onballer three Brownlow votes in the Hawks’ win.

40 disposals, nine inside 50s, 13 clearances, two goals

Mitchell was arguably best on ground as he played a critical role in helping the Hawks over the line against the Cats in a nail-biter. 40 disposals, 13 clearances and nine inside 50s saw him dominate through the middle of the ground, while two goals – each coming in the second and third terms –  were also crucial as the Hawks hung on to win by a point.
