Breust AFLPA's MVP of the month

hawthornfc.com.au  August 1, 2018 12:30 PM

Game Breaker: Breust Almighty Luke Breust slotted four goals in the West as the Hawks downed the Dockers.

Luke Breust has been voted by the AFLPA as the league's most valuable player in the month of July.

The Hawks' small forward received 24.7 per cent of the players’ vote, one percent ahead of Melbourne's Clayton Oliver.

Breust has been in blistering form of late, booting 15 goals across the month, culminating in a six-goal performance against the Bulldogs in Round 16. He has also found plenty of the ball, averaging 17 disposals - up from his previous career best of 15, achieved in his All Australian year of 2014.

His season tally is now up to 45 goals, placing him third in the race for the Coleman Medal, behind North Melbourne's Ben Brown (53) and Geelong's Tom Hawkins (48).

Max Gawn also placed in the top three with 20 percent of the AFLPA vote, with Andrew Gaff, Dyson Heppell and Dustin Martin rounding out the six players in contention.

VOTING PROCESS

A selection of AFLPA MVP winners (Leigh Matthews, Chris Judd, Gerard Healy and Tim Watson) nominate six players they believe to be the best for the month.

Current players will then vote to decide who they believe is the MVP of the Month from the six nominees. The monthly winner is automatically nominated for the end-of-season AFL Players’ MVP Award (Leigh Matthews Trophy).
