Emerging Hawthorn midfielder Laura Stone says the Hawks are “ready to go” for Saturday night’s semi-final against Carlton at IKON Park.

After finishing fourth at the end of the home-and-away season, Hawthorn remains in the premiership hunt despite falling short to North Melbourne in last week’s Qualifying Final.

Speaking to SEN’s The Run Home, Stone spoke about the loss, the team’s injuries and what they’re expecting from the Blues on the weekend.

We summarised the key points from her interview with Andy Maher and Andrew Gaze below.

On the Qualifying Final loss

“Yeah, it was definitely a tough loss, but we knew they were going to be a big challenge. Obviously, they’ve been dominating the competition this season. We were up for the challenge, and we wanted to give our all. I think we did do that, but I think we just lapsed at times with execution and little things, but we know we can fix those things. We just reviewed them, and now we’re ready to go and all focused on Saturday night.”

On lower scores in some games

“We’re obviously trying to score goals to win, that’s the main part of the game. We knew they were a strong team and we weren’t able to execute how we would’ve liked, but we’ve reviewed that session with the forwards and we’ve got to work over the last week so we’re ready to go and hoping to be more productive on that.”

On Emily Bates, Jas Fleming and Aine McDonagh’s health

“They’ve been going well. They’re obviously in the hands of the medical staff, they’ve been taking good care of them this week. Their main focus was just to rest up and get ready for this week. Emily’s been doing so well in her rehab journey, she’s definitely one of the toughest in our team. She’s so determined with how she’s been attacking it at the moment. She’s been going hard at her rehab, which is really exciting.”

On Carlton

“Round 2 was a long time ago. It’s finals now, it’s a different ballgame, so we’re just ready to go for Saturday night. They’re definitely a solid side, and we respect the,m so we’re excited for the challenge.”
