Box Hill secured its second win of the 2026 season, with a 73-point victory over Port Melbourne in Round 4.

The Hawks were dominant at ETU Stadium (North Port Oval), with a number of Hawks, both AFL and VFL-listed dominating across the ground.

Box Hill Senior Coach David Mirra said he was impressed with his team’s performance.

“We were pleased to see our brand of footy being executed for large parts of the game,” Mirra said.

“We dominated the contest and exceeded contest KPI’s. Furthermore, our collective defensive effort effectively stifled their forward entries, while our own offense generated 61 inside-50s and an impressive 38 scoring shots.”

Mirra detailed the performance of every AFL-listed Hawk’s Roun 4 performance below.

Finn Maginness (Three goals, 34 disposals, ten clearances)

“Finn’s opening four rounds of the season have been impressive. He has been our leading possession winner in all four of our games averaging 32 disposals a game. Finn was dominant around stoppages winning 10 clearances and 17 contested possessions and has a big engine which allowed to get to multiple contests and kick three goals.”

Henry Hustwaite (29 disposals, 12 clearances, seven tackles)

“Was a strong contributor and getting back to his best form after his ankle sprain injury. He won a lot of ball at stoppages finishing with 12 clearances and really set us up winning the footy at the coalface. He showcased his clean hands in tight releasing players around him. He also contributed strongly to the defensive side of our game with strong pressure finishing with seven tackles and six intercept possessions.”

Jack Dalton (25 disposals, six marks, three clearances)

“Played as a half forward and an inside mid. Dalts was able to get a lot of the ball by working hard up the ground and was able to get into space on many occasions resulting in 16 uncontested possessions showcasing his running ability. He was very disciplined in his role was damaging on the outside.”

Jack Scrimshaw (One goal, 22 disposals, six marks)

“Attacked the contest ferociously with tough spoils, smothers and aerial contests. Set us up across half back with his poise and good ball use. He kicked a goal on the run right on the three quarter time siren to put us in a commanding lead.”

Noah Mraz (18 disposals, eight intercept possessions, four marks)

“Won his battle against his opponent and helped his teammates in defence. He had a lot of pressure acts and took intercept marks and finished the day with eight intercept possessions to go with 18 touches which is a nice return given we restricted Port Melbourne to only 36 inside 50’s for the match.”

Max Ramsden (One goal, 23 hitouts, 17 disposals)

“Max is splitting his time between ruck and forward. As a ruck he won 23 hit outs and outworked his opponent, beating him both forward and defensively. He had a good presence in the air attacking aerial contests, of which he took the most contested marks for us and when he didn’t mark it, he at least brought the ball to ground to allow our small forwards to get to work.”

Cody Anderson (Two goals, 17 disposals, four tackles)

“Playing the game as a forward, it was pleasing to see Cody hit the scoreboard this week kicking 2.1. He played a major part in our ability to convert our good work to scores with four inside 50’s and five score assists, the most for the team. He worked hard up the ground and provided us with good options.”

Aidan Schubert (Three goals, 15 disposals, five marks)

“Had a good day, could’ve been a great day! He had eight scoring shots on goal, kicking 3.5 to go with seven scoring shots last week. He constantly puts himself in good positions to impact the contest and knows how to hit the scoreboard or make something happen for others. He has a huge tank so can really work over his opponent and is a strong contested mark.”

Harry Morrison (15 disposals, five score involvements, four tackles)

“He played a mixture of wing and half back. Whilst his overall possession tally for the day wasn’t overly high, he made his possessions count as an attacking threat. He was very damaging with the ball and created many goals by his smart decisions off half back, highlighted by his disposal efficiency of 93%.”

06:03
Cam Nairn (12 disposals, six intercept possessions, three marks)

“Cam continues to refine his role as a wing and half forward. He was very good at executing his role in our team defence this week running back hard to support our defence and provide an extra number to use on the way out, finishing with two rebound 50’s. This is something he has been working on for a few weeks, so it was nice to see him execute this on game day. Again, he used the ball well and has a beautiful kick which is a damaging threat.”

Bailey Macdonald (12 disposals, three marks, three tackles)

“Bailey has had a big month of footy and didn’t have too many opportunities to impact the contest this week with the limited amount of footy that came into our back end. However, he did have a couple of ’save the day’ type moments when Port Melbourne looked like they were going to score which showed sound defensive patterns.”

Ollie Greeves (12 disposals, six score involvements, four marks)

“Played as an inside mid, he generated four inside 50’s which resulted in marks and scores. He was able to test his opponent by getting forward which resulted in two shots on goal. Ollie has been developing his midfield craft and is showing strengths at stoppages with his ball winning ability.”

Jaime Uhr-Henry (23 hitouts, 10 disposals, four tackles)

“A solid game for Jamie finishing with 23 hit outs. He got on top of the opposition ruckman and generated hit outs to advantage and won clearance himself. He got around the ground supporting the contest with balance and won eight contested possessions and showcased his athleticism and intent laying four tackles.”

Matt Hill (Two goals, nine disposals, five tackles)

“He executed his role well as a small forward, laying five tackles and five contested possessions and kicking two goals. In this role, he isn’t going to be a high accumulator of the ball, but it’s about nailing his moments when they arise and he did that.”

James Blanck (Six disposals, three tackles, three intercept possessions)

“Continued on his path back to a full return. He was on managed minutes playing three quarters of game time, however during this time he was able to take two intercept marks, generate rebound 50’s and used the ball well. He saved us from the opposition kicking a goal when out-positioned and Port Melbourne on the counter, he ran back with the flight and just was able to bring the ball to ground - A huge play.”

Matt LeRay (Three disposals, one mark, one score involvement)

“Matt shifted from defence and played on a wing this week. He ran some nice patterns and held his balance well. Unfortunately, Matt sustained a concussion in the second quarter and took no further part in the game.”

A VFL player shout out…

Brodie McLaughlin (Seven goals, five marks, four contested possessions)

“Kicked a bag of seven goals. Equally as impressive was his leadership and intent to impact the contest when Port Melbourne got a run on in the third quarter.”

Box Hill heads to Trevor Barker Beach Oval this Sunday to take on Sandringham in Round 5.
