Hawthorn Football Club, in conjunction with Tourism Northern Tasmania, has donated 100 tickets to the Hawthorn v Richmond NAB 3 match to those affected by the devastating January bushfires in Tasmania.

In making the donation, Hawthorn CEO Stuart Fox expressed his support for those affected by the disaster.

“When the Club visited Tasmania recently on our Community Camp, we saw firsthand the enormous challenge several families face to rebuild their lives and livelihoods,” Fox said.

“This donation, which will allow a number of families to enjoy a much deserved break at the footy, is the least Hawthorn can do for a state and a community that continues to support our football Club.”

Tourism Northern Tasmania CEO Chris Griffin hoped families affected by the fires could take some time out to enjoy a game of footy in Launceston.

“We hope a weekend away to enjoy the footy will be welcome respite for many who have spent the past several weeks dealing with the aftermath of the fires,” Griffin said.

“We want to encourage those who have been affected by these bushfires to come north for the weekend and enjoy some time off.”

In addition to Hawthorn’s $10,000 contribution to the Red Cross Tasmanian Bushfires 2013 Appeal, the Club extended its annual Community Camp visit to the state this month to assist with recovery efforts at bushfire affected areas in Dunalley, Connelly’s Marsh, Sorell and Dodges Ferry.

The 100 tickets will be available from the Dunalley Information and Services Hub at 160 Arthur Highway (the old post office) and the Murdunna Information and Services Hub on the Arthur Highway.
