SCANS today have confirmed Hawthorn ruckman Jonathon Ceglar will miss the remainder of the 2016 season after tearing his anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in Friday night’s clash with West Coast Eagles.

Ceglar sustained the injury during the third quarter of the Hawk’s round 22 match when he landed awkwardly on his right knee in a marking contest.

The 204cm ruckman had been in good form for the Hawks in 2016, averaging an impressive 22 hit-outs.

GM – Football Operations Chris Fagan said it was disappointing news for Ceglar and the club.

“Jon’s been an important player for us and has really stepped up in the absence of David Hale this season,” Fagan said.

“It’s very disappointing for Jon, particularly so close to finals. He’s a resilient bloke and I have no doubt he will be determined to attack his rehab and get back to footy as soon as he can.

“Whilst Jon plays an important role in the side we are confident others will take their opportunities and step up to cover his absence.”
