At 34 years of age, Shaun Burgoyne could have been excused for showing some signs of slowing down.

Maybe his explosiveness could have dropped off?

Or his kicking might have started to lack penetration?

Or he started to struggle to run out games?

No. None of these. Nowhere near!

Burgoyne kept up his superb standard of play in 2017, once again being one of the Hawks’ most valuable players throughout the campaign.

In his 16th year in the league, Burgoyne recorded his second best contested possession average, kicked more goals than he has in eight of the last nine years and posted a disposal average that he has bettered in only three seasons throughout his career.

Burgoyne has signed on for season 2018, as he eyes off becoming only the 16th player in league history to reach 350 career games.

A word from: Brett Ratten

“He really is like an old red, he is getting better with age.

“His ability to win the ball in the contest and then use the footy is elite. He is probably our most effective player kicking the ball inside 50 so, as a midfielder, we really got great value from him entering 50.

“He also kicked 17 goals, when spending a bit of time up forward this year. But his ability to change games as a big moments player is outstanding. He delivers pretty much every time.”
