Hawthorn is pleased to announce that premiership star and current Hawthorn Development Coach Max Bailey will coach the club in its first ever AFLX tournament.

Bailey says he is excited to temporarily take the reins, after being offered the position by Senior Coach Alastair Clarkson.

"Clarko called me two weeks ago and said is this something you'd want to do, and I jumped at [the opportunity]," said the former ruckman.

"I think it's going to be a lot of fun... Having seen it [overseas] and then seeing some of our trial games here, I think it's a pretty exciting brand of football."

The club will take part in a round-robin tournament on the 16th of February, playing two Pool B matches against Essendon and St Kilda, before a potential grand final against the winner of Pool A.
