In a down year in the eyes of Hawks fans, Sam Frost’s debut season in the brown and gold surely figures as a cause for optimism. Frost joined the Hawks in the 2019 trade period and made an instant impact in his new surrounds. The ultra-athletic defender finished equal-eighth in the Peter Crimmins Medal count, a strong reward for a consistent season that saw him miss just two games. A rugged stopper, Frost won or halved just shy of 80 per cent of his defensive contests in 2020. His aggression and pace was also an asset to the Hawks’ offensive movement, providing an exciting dash and dare out of the side’s defensive 50.
