Hawthorn is excited to announce the club’s second AFLW signing, with small forward Zoe Barbakos committing to the brown and gold.

Possessing electrifying speed and competitiveness, the Hawks pounced on the Sandringham Dragons product who has excelled across her five games in the NAB League so far this season.

Barbakos has kicked eight goals across her campaign with the Dragons to date, but her most eye-catching performance of the year came on the weekend when the 158cm speedster booted three goals for Vic Metro against Vic Country.

Along with her knack around goals, the 18-year-old left-footer is also renowned for the defensive pressure she applies on her opponents.

AFLW List Manager Mitchell Cashion said Barbakos possesses enormous promise given her relative greenness in the sport.

“Zoe is very new to elite football pathways, but she’s already shown a steep learning curve,” Cashion said.

“We’re really excited about the energy and competitiveness she brings in the forward half of the ground.

“Her limited exposure to talent programs gives her a large scope for improvement as we bring her into our system, especially under Bec Goddard.

“She has previously been very successful in tennis and athletics in her junior sporting career.”

Hawthorn announced its inaugural women’s signing in late February when Eastern Ranges talent Bridget Deed agreed to join the club ahead of its entry into the AFLW competition in August.
