Hawthorn will farewell forward Jack Gunston after a trade was reached with Brisbane in the Continental Tyres AFL Trade Period.

The Hawks have received a third round selection, Pick 48, in next month’s NAB AFL Draft and a future fourth round selection in exchange for the veteran.

Hawthorn now holds picks 6, 24, 48, 52 and 65 in the upcoming draft.

Hawthorn National List and Recruiting Manager Mark McKenzie said the deal enables the club to strengthen its draft position.

"Knowing that Jack wanted to head to Brisbane, we worked with the Lions to secure a suitable trade for our club, and we're excited to take a strong hand into this year's draft to continue to add to our group,” McKenzie said.

"I would like to thank Jack for his contribution to the Hawks over the past 11 seasons, he has been an incredible servant for our club.

“We wish him all the best for the future.”

It comes after Hawthorn landed talented wingman Karl Amon last week as an unrestricted free agent.

The 27-year-old committed to a four-year deal with the Hawks following 124 games with Port Adelaide.

The AFL Trade Period runs until 7.30pm on Wednesday October 12.
