Young gun Jai Newcombe has been voted the Round 16 MVP in Hawthorn’s 61-point win over the Eagles at Optus Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

The 22-year-old was dominant from start to finish in a commanding midfield performance, recording with a game-high 33 disposals, eight inside 50s and nine score involvements.

Newcombe proved a vital cog in the Hawthorn’s engine room, alongside James Worpel, Conor Nash and Will Day, helping guide the Hawks to their fifth consecutive victory.

This marks the first MVP nod in 2024 for the Peter Crimmins Medal runner-up from a season ago.

Newcombe’s Round 16 performance takes his season averages to 23.6 disposals, 4.6 tackles and 5.5 clearances per game.

Hawthorn will head down the highway to face Geelong in Round 17 at GMHBA Stadium on Saturday July 6 from 4.35pm.
