First-year Hawk Lavinia Cox will miss the remainder of the 2025 season after suffering a stress fracture in her ankle.
The 19-year-old reported soreness last week before scans revealed the low-level stress fracture.
High Performance Manager Aaron Kellett provided further detail on Cox as well as an update on Jess Vukic (concussion), Lucy Wales (appendix) and Emily Bates (SC joint).
Jess Vukic (Concussion) – Test
“Jess has worked through the protocols successfully so far. She’s trained today, had her intro contact session, so she’s got one more milestone to step through with a full training and full contact session later in the week but at this stage that’s her test to be available this weekend.”
Lucy Wales (Appendix) – TBC
“It’s great to see Penny back in the club this week, she’s working through the post-surgical protocols. We’ve still got a few things to square away before we can fully understand what her notional timeline will be for her return. But so far Penny’s healthy and working through those protocols well.”
Emily Bates (SC joint) – TBC
“Emily’s flying, it is good to see her running again, she’s working on her fitness, working on all of her strength progressions. We’re probably going to scan that joint next week and assess the healing of that which will help us to understand what our next steps are. That’ll help us understand what a notional return to play looks like for her so she’s still a TBC but next week we should be able to update with a bit more detail.”
Lavinia Cox (Ankle) – Season
“Vinnie just presented with some low-level ankle soreness last week, we deloaded that, we scanned it and revealed some low-level bone stress in the lower part of her ankle. Given her age, she’s a high output player and the stage of the season we’re at, we’re going to shut her down for the season and manage that really conservatively, try and get all of her individual development plan priorities started now but at this stage that’s the season for Lavinia.”
