Hawthorn youngster Will McCabe will make his AFL debut this Saturday afternoon when the Hawks host Port Adelaide at Marvel Stadium.

The 20-year-old will become the Club’s second debutant this season after being told the exciting news in front of his teammates on Thursday.

McCabe, a first-round draft selection in 2023, is set to follow in the footsteps of his father, and 138 Hawthorn gamer, Luke.

Originally drafted as a key defender, the 197cm South Australian product has furthered his development as a forward in recent seasons, highlighted by a four-goal, 20-disposal performance in the VFL just last month.

Executive General Manager of Football Rob McCartney congratulated McCabe on his debut.

“Will’s pathway to his AFL debut has required him to show both persistence and resilience," McCartney said.

“The work Will put into his most recent off-season has provided him with the perfect base to start season 2026 strongly.

“His form at the VFL level has made him now an absolutely deserving recipient of his first brown and gold jumper.

“We are excited to see him run out at Marvel Stadium on Saturday and begin his journey as an AFL footballer.”
