Hawthorn youngster Bodie Ryan will make his AFL debut against Fremantle this Thursday night in Perth.

Ryan is set to become the Club’s third debutant this season, following in the footsteps of first-year Hawk Jack Dalton (Round 4) and fellow 2023 draftee Will McCabe (Round 6).

In his third season at Hawthorn, the Glenelg product has shown impressive signs of development as a versatile defender, coupled with his strong ball use from the back half.

The 21-year-old’s selection comes amid a strong patch of form at VFL level for Box Hill this season, where he’s averaged 21.8 disposals, 5.6 marks and 2.2 tackles per game.

Most recently, Ryan racked up 19 disposals at 90 per cent efficiency against Collingwood in last Friday night’s VFL clash against Collingwood at the Kennedy Community Centre.

Hawthorn Executive General Manager of Football Rob McCartney was pleased to see Ryan earn his chance at the elite level.

“We are excited to see Bodie make his debut against the in-form team in the competition over in Perth this Thursday night,” McCartney said.

"Since being drafted three years ago, Bodie has really had to persevere to get to this point.

“Throughout it all, he has never lost sight of continuing to work on his craft and refining his game.

"After playing consistent, high-level footy at VFL level, he has truly earned this opportunity.”
