The Club has today been advised by the AFL it will receive a first round draft selection as compensation for the loss of Lance Franklin through Free Agency.

The pick will be after the Club's first round draft choice (traded to St Kilda in a deal for Ben McEvoy). The selection will be number 19 in the 2013 National Draft.

CEO Stuart Fox said the Club understands the AFL's rules.

“We understand there are rules around free agency compensation, however we believe it is inequitable that compensation is linked to ladder position," he said.

Given the extraordinary circumstances of Franklin’s departure the Club made a submission to the AFL for special consideration, but was today advised it was unsuccessful.

Franklin announced his intention to join Sydney as a Restricted Free Agent on 1 October and despite having the option to match Sydney's offer, the Club decided to allow him to join the Swans on 8 October.

The Club has not received a compensation pick for the loss of Xavier Ellis to West Coast as an Unrestricted Free Agent due to the size of the offer and his age.
