The Blue Ribbon Cup tradition began in 1999 to honour Sergeant Gary Silk & Senior Constable Rodney Miller, two Victorian Police members who were murdered in the line of duty at Moorabbin in August 1998. This year, 25 years on, they are still remembered.

Players, coaches, support staff will today wear blue and white armbands as a mark of respect for Gary Silk and Rodney Miller, and also for all police members in every State and Territory who have made the ultimate sacrifice for peace and safety in our communities.

At the conclusion of the match, the winning team will; be awarded the Blue Ribbon Cup and the player judged best afield for each team will be awarded the Silk Miller Medals.
