Hawthorn star midfielder Tom Mitchell has earned a spot in the 40-man All Australian squad on the back of another stellar season.

The 28-year-old is in contention for his third All Australian blazer and first since battling a badly broken leg which wiped out his 2019 campaign.

Mitchell has had an outstanding year, averaging 34.3 disposals a game, 4.8 tackles and 4.1 inside 50s.

"I don't want any of the spotlight": Mitchell humble about game 150

The former 2017 and 2018 All Australian was crowned the leading ball-getter in the league for 2021 following the conclusion of the home-and-away season on the weekend, finishing with a total of 754 disposals to his name - leading the likes of Jack Macrae (743), Ollie Wines (706) and Rory Laird (704).

Mitchell, who has played all 22 games for the Hawks this year, collected 30 or more disposals across 15 games in 2021, and in four games registered above 40 touches.

Arguably his best game came in Round 21 when he amassed 44 possessions, 10 marks and eight clearances and a goal to help the Hawks to a 19-point victory over Collingwood.

In his 150th game milestone against Richmond at the MCG on the weekend, Mitchell continued his impressive form finishing with a game-high 36 disposals.

The 2018 Brownlow Medallist and two-time Peter Crimmins Medallist has forged a decorated career during his time in the brown and gold after arriving at the club from Sydney in 2016.
