From the infamous Wordle to a classic game of charades, there was plenty of interesting chats to come out of our Hawks in the media this week.

Did you miss them? We've got you covered with our weekly recap!

Sam Mitchell – SEN Breakfast

Coach Sam Mitchell joined Kane and Kingy last Friday where a discussion on Wordle came about.

“I don’t play every day, but my kids play Wordle together, it’s a good dinner table conversation,” Mitchell said.

Aside from Wordle, Mitchell went on to discuss all things Hawthorn.

“Across the course of the pre-season and the season there are aspects of our game that aren't quite aligned,” he said.

“We aren't as sharp in the changing of structure, but we are slowly working towards it.

“You can’t nail everything in one year, we wanted to start with embedding bigger picture things as a whole.

“I can't teach them everything at once because we are all continually evolving and evaluating the skill set that we have.”

When asked about the other coaches, Mitchell spoke about the importance of developing relationships.

“Our philosophy is everyone needs a friend in match committee, we really encourage our players and coaches to make these connections,” Mitchell said.

Jai Newcombe – SEN

Jai Newcombe spoke to Dwayne’s World earlier this week fresh off his Round 5 Rising Star Nomination.

“As fast it is, I’m going by the old footy cliché ‘we’ll take it week by week’ and see how we go,” Newcombe said.

“We haven’t put a ceiling on where we want to get to as a club this year. We just want to see consistent growth and improvement among the group.

“As long as our progress is consistent, I think we’ll be pretty happy as a club.”

Jack Scrimshaw – Triple M

Jack Scrimshaw spoke to Leigh Montagna, Jay Clark and Sarah Cameron and touched base on his friendship with fan favourite Changkuoth Jiath.

“CJ is a really close mate of mine, it's really good to see that the work that he puts in is being rewarded,” Scrimshaw said.

“Over the years his disposals let him down, but now it's exciting when he gets the ball to see the way he uses the football.”

Scrimshaw also expressed his admiration for Mitchell.

“The boys have a lot of respect for him, he is sort of like another player, the boys really enjoy his company,” Scrimshaw said.

“Sam brings a few wacky things in meetings, we have played Pictionary and charades before.”

Dylan Moore – Sunday Footy Show

Moore Spoke with Alicia Muling live from the Hawks Easter Open Training last Saturday.

“I was a Hawthorn supporter growing up, all I wanted to do was go to the game,” Moore said.

“I never went to an Easter Monday clash, I was always at the Stawell Gift trying to get a better handicap.

“It is such a privilege to play in the Easter Monday clash.”

Adrian Hickmott – SEN

Adrian spoke with SEN prior to the Easter Monday clash.

“We have a young developing team, we need to keep it fresh in their minds that they must win contests,” Hickmott said.

“It is quite exciting that there is room for development and education in the younger players.

“As a coaching group, we need to settle them and help them to go again.

“Our expectation is that they perform to the best of their ability each week, and if they don’t do that you have to review each individual and come to a decision and make changes if you need.”
