The Hawks will welcome another first-gamer into the fold this weekend, with young key forward Jackson Callow set to make his debut.

The 19-year-old 195cm exciting prospect will be named to take on the Melbourne this Saturday afternoon at the MCG.

Callow - a North Launceston product - joined Hawthorn with Pick 17 in last year’s mid-season rookie draft.

The strong-bodied goal kicker earns his spot in the senior side after impressing for Box Hill at VFL level this season.

Head of Football Rob McCartney said the opportunity for Callow is well-earned.

“Jackson’s story is one of perseverance. He has made many sacrifices to get this opportunity and we couldn’t be happier for him,” McCartney said.

“He left his family in Tasmania to play in the SANFL last year after being overlooked in the national draft. Through hard work, his game developed and we selected him in the mid-season draft in 2021.

“He has continued to improve at VFL level and now gets his opportunity to make his AFL debut.”

Callow will be Hawthorn’s third debutant in 2022.

The remainder of Hawthorn’s team to take on the Demons this Saturday will be announced on Thursday night at 6.20pm.
