Fresh off a bye last week, a recharged Hawthorn outfit will take on the Western Bulldogs in their first Friday night outing for season 2022.

It is the first time these two teams have met since Round 22 last year, where the Hawks took home an impressive 27-point win.

Hawthorn will be without key defender Sam Frost after he injured his knee in the match against Fremantle.

In exciting news, the Hawks will welcome back Mitch Lewis to the side after recovering from a knee injury, while James Worpel and Connor Macdonald are back following strong form in the VFL.

The match will mark Hawthorn's first Friday night game in 2022 and only the second time playing at Marvel Stadium.

Last time we met

Hawthorn (64) defeated Western Bulldogs (37) - Round 22, 2021

Hawthorn battled the Western Bulldogs in a windy game down in Tasmania. The game began in wet and scrappy conditions, with the Dogs scoring the first and only goal of the first quarter.

The Hawks were dominant in the second term and with four consecutive goals in the third, the brown and gold led by 14 points at the final break.

The Hawks ultimately adapted better to the scrappy affair provided by the wet and windy conditions, to go on and win against the powerful Dogs.

Daniel Howe, Jacob Koschitzke, Jai Newcombe, Tom Mitchell and Chad Wingard were all prolific in the victory.

Our last game

Fremantle (95) defeated Hawthorn (82) - Round 13, 2022

Hawthorn took on the ladder-leaders Fremantle in a showdown in the west a fortnight ago, putting on a spirited performance.

The forward half pressure was pivotal in the Hawks gaining a 10-point lead, with the brown and gold gaining a 32-21 advantage in inside 50s.

The Dockers looked home with a 14-point margin in the last term, until Luke Breust booted his second goal with six minutes remaining. Unfortunately, Fremantle held their composure defeating the Hawks by 13 points.

Jaeger O’Meara and James Sicily both stepped up immensely in their role, with O’Meara finishing with a team-high 30 disposals and 9 clearances while Sicily was a powerhouse in defence.

Alongside O’Meara and Sicily, Tom Mitchell, Dylan Moore, Conor Nash and Daniel Howe were also dominant on the day.
