Mackenzie Eardley is likely to be available for selection this weekend after completing managed minutes in the VFLW last weekend, while Hannah Looney is set for an extended period on the sideline.
Looney suffered a hamstring tear in her return to football in the VFLW last weekend.
Meanwhile, Elli Symonds has made strong progress from her foot injury and is a chance to take to the field in a managed capacity this weekend.
High Performance Manager Aaron Kellett provided an update on all three players below.
Mackenzie Eardley (Achilles) – Available
“She was a test for last week, which she got through really well, she had a great week of training. We decided to play her on some managed minutes through the VFLW on the weekend, which she did really well, got through unscathed. We'll look to train fully this week, progress some of her loading, and pending a clean week on the track, she'll be available this weekend.”
Elli Symonds (Foot) – Test
“Also had a really good week on the track, ticked off another couple of her return to play markers. We think she's at the level where we'd like to test her this week to maybe play some managed minutes through the scrimmage on the weekend. So yeah, again, pending a clean week on the track, we'll look to control her return to play through the scrimmage on Saturday.”
Hannah Looney (Hamstring) – 12-16 weeks
“Really disappointing for Hannah. First game back after working her way back to football after some plantar fascia problems. She was caught in a bit of a contact situation, got bent over a little bit, and a stretch mechanism has unfortunately ruptured the proximal part of her hamstring tendon. We're doing some work on investigating the best path there, but that's a really long-term injury, somewhere between 12 to 16 weeks, most likely. We've still got some work to do to sort of establish a definitive timeline, but yeah, really disappointing outcome for Hannah. We're going to wrap our arms around her.”
