Eliza West and Mackenzie Eardley both sustained minor ankles injuries in last weekend’s clash with the GWS Giants and will need to prove their fitness ahead of Round 11.
High Performance Manager Aaron Kellett also provided an update on Hannah Looney and Grace Baba’s return to play timelines, as well as the progress of players with long-term injuries in Emily Everist, Emily Bates and Matilda Van Berkel.
Eliza West (Ankle) – Test
“Eliza rolled her ankle pretty badly actually in the game, she had to be taken from the field. We re-strapped it and she was able to get back on and finish the game well. Obviously that's pretty sore today, we'll manage that through the early part of the week. We don't think it's going to be a problem for availability for this weekend, but we'll need to see how it progresses this week. So technically she'll be a test for next round.”
Mackenzie Eardley (Ankle) – Test
“Mack rolled her ankle in the game, was assisted on the field by our physios, didn't require any time off the field, didn't need to be re-strapped, so was able to finish the game well, reported well after the game. That's blown up a little bit after the after the match in subsequent days. We've managed that today, we'll have a look at it on scan just to make sure we know what we're dealing with. So technically, she'll be a test. We think it'll be okay for the week, but we'll wait on some further information before finalising our decision.:”
Hannah Looney (Hamstring) – 2-3 weeks
“Hannah's doing really well, I think I've said all the way along she's well ahead of schedule. She's back into a full training environment this week, has functionally, done some amazing steps forward. We still got some bits and pieces of strength data we want to square away to make sure that tissue-wise she's progressing and on track to handle the forces of AFLW football. She also has a surgeon's follow-up just to clear her medically for that. So at this stage, yeah, progressing really well and pushing hard for availability before the end of the season.”
Grace Baba (Ankle) – 2-4 weeks
“Grace is going really well. Has resumed her conditioning, resumed her running, change of direction protocols are going well in a modified skills environment with our physios and our development coaches, pushing really hard as well. Grace has done everything right to this point, so yeah, we're hopeful she can get herself up to play football again this year.”
Matilda Van Berkel (Foot) – Season
“I think I updated last time that she'd just started her return-to-running progressions. Tilly's completely over ground running, full sprint progressions have been squared away. She's working through her conditioning and in a rehab skills environment as well. So Tilly, again, whilst the season's not in line for her, she's pushed really, really well to give herself the best chance in the off-season to hit the ground running.”
Emily Bates (Knee) – Season
“Batesy's about three weeks post-surgery now. She's got all of her range of motion back, so she's been able to resume her bike work, she's working on getting that full quad function back, working through her strength progressions. So, as you would expect of someone like Emily, she's doing everything she possibly can to tick every box as quickly as possible, so she's been exemplary.”
Emily Everist (Knee) – Season
“Sherpa, post a bit of a cleanout, I think I mentioned in an earlier update, she's back now and has resumed her running. So that cleanout was really successful and has got her functionally progressing really well. Obviously, that's been on the back of, you know, a big improvement in her strength progression, which is actually a really important marker for her. So yeah, really pumped for Emily, she's progressing well.”
