Hawthorn is excited to announce the club’s AFLW practice match against Richmond on Sunday August 14 will now be played at the MCG.

Originally scheduled to be played at the Swinburne Centre at Punt Rd Oval, the game will now form part of a double-header with the women’s game preceding the Hawks AFL Round 22 match also against Richmond.

The AFLW practice match will start at 10.30am AEST and finish at 12.10pm before the AFL match starts at 1.10pm.

The match-up will represent the inaugural Hawthorn women’s team’s final dress rehearsal prior to its highly anticipated season opener against Essendon.

Hawthorn GM – Operations and AFLW Josh Vanderloo said it was a great opportunity for the players to play at the MCG.

“It’s really exciting that we’ve been able to move this game to the home of footy, the MCG,” Vanderloo said.

“It will be the first time playing on the ‘G for a lot of our players, so it will be a really momentous occasion.

“Our inaugural squad has made some great progress over the course of the pre-season and this is a great way to continue our preparations for Round 1.

“We’d like to acknowledge the work of the AFL and MCC for organising this game. We appreciate their continued support of women’s football.”

Gates will open for Hawthorn AFLW’s practice match against Richmond at 10.15am.
