Dear members,

As you may or may not know, I’m set to play a special milestone game this Saturday when we take on Gold Coast at UTAS Stadium.

I feel very privileged to be in the position that I’m in. Not many people are as lucky as I am and get to play 250 games.

But I’ve never been one for personal accolades, so I think for me, this is a milestone for those nearest and dearest to me.

While I’m the one that gets to play, there are so many people who have contributed behind the scenes to enable me to get here.

It’s a really special moment for those close to me, my family and friends who give up so much.

It can be a selfish existence playing elite sport, so this is a really good chance to be able to thank everyone for their part in the journey.

From my teammates, coaches, fitness staff, volunteers, to our supporters - you are all what makes this club so great.

But most of all I’m forever indebted to my parents, siblings, wife and kids who have proven to be an incredible support network.

It’s very much not about the individual player. I’ve had to work really hard, but I’ve had so many people help me along the way.

As you know, I didn’t start my career at the Hawks, so thank you for welcoming me and allowing this to be my home. I’ve loved being part of the Hawthorn family.

I remember how privileged I felt playing 200 games and getting to share that with my family. We had an inspirational win that game and I got to share it alongside Punky.

I remember at the time thinking ‘goodness, surely there is no way I’d get to 250’. I had my 30th birthday with the 200 milestone. I pinch myself that I’ve got here.

We have a quote in our lift at Bunjil Bagora from Dr Sandy Ferguson that says, ‘If you embrace Hawthorn, Hawthorn will embrace you’.

It’s really special to me to be the first captain of Hawthorn who had come from another club because I think that speaks to the relationship that I’ve had with Hawthorn.

Having that privilege and responsibility of captaincy has spurred me on in the twilight of my career, so I’m forever thankful for that.

Thank you for all the constant support, especially this year as we ride the rollercoaster that is building with a young team.

All the best and go Hawks!
