Young gun Jai Newcombe has received the nod as Hawthorn’s Round 22 MVP following a gutsy performance in his side’s 61-point defeat to Richmond on Sunday.

The 21-year-old shone brightly for the Hawks on an otherwise disappointing day at the MCG, battling hard to finish with 29 disposals and six tackles.

Newcombe’s influence was felt through the midfield and forward of centre, with the rising star recording six score involvements along with four clearances.

In just his 28th game at the top level, Newcombe continues to provide plenty of reasons for Hawthorn fans to be excited for the future.

His MVP accolade comes just days after being named in the AFL Players’ Association 22Under22 40-man squad.
