Talented Hawthorn winger Kaitlyn Ashmore will be in a unique situation on Saturday night.

While she will play her first game in Hawthorn colours, it will be her 50th in the AFLW after previously suiting up for Brisbane and North Melbourne.

Ashmore also becomes the second Indigenous AFLW player to play 50 games.

The 30-year-old was humbled by the opportunity, but more excited about the prospect of those around her experiencing AFLW for the first time.

“It doesn’t feel like I’ve played 50 games,” she said.

“I hate talking about myself because it’s really just about the journey obviously from that first year (of AFLW) to now, how much it’s grown and the impact it’s had on so many people like fans, friends, families and especially the young girls.

“I’m a primary school teacher so seeing them wear jerseys to school is so exciting.”

Speaking about the prospect of playing her 50th game in a Hawthorn jumper, Ashmore said she couldn’t be happier about it.

“I was really nervous to play my 50th game for a new club but the last 10 weeks has been the best fun I’ve had,” she said.

“I haven’t had fun playing footy in years so thanks to Bec (Goddard) and everyone around me.

“To build such a strong culture in 10 weeks, that’s a credit to Bec and I’m really excited for Saturday night, especially for the new girls to come in and play their first game at Marvel, that’s an incredible stadium.

“Hopefully a few more girls down the track will have the chance to play in big stadiums.”
