Hawthorn recruit Fergus Greene will be a test to play ahead of this weekend after injuring his knee during Sunday's win against North Melbourne.

High Performance Manager Peter Burge said Greene would be further assessed at the club's main training session on Thursday.

“Fergus was involved in an incident during the first half, he came back onto the ground but was a little bit inhibited," Burge said.

“After the game we assessed him, he wasn’t too bad, but he was a little bit sore yesterday (Monday).

"He was back outside and doing some straight-line running today (Tuesday), we’ll assess him at training on Thursday and have a further update then."

Meanwhile, defender Changkuoth Jiath is facing an unfortunate setback.

After fully training last week following his recovery from an achilles injury, Jiath went on to play in the VFL game on Saturday with Box Hill and returned to a flying start.

But at half time the 24-year-old reported some groin pain, unrelated to his previous achilles issue.

“Half time we assessed him, gave him some treatment, and then got him back out there again, but he just didn’t have full power," Burge explained.

“He’s got a groin strain that came up on scans yesterday.

"It's really frustrating for him, and for us. We just haven’t been able to get going and get some continuity.

“We're back into a rehab program again for a different issue, hopefully it's short-term and we can turn it around quickly. We’re just looking for some consistency and positivity for CJ.

“With six games left in the season at AFL-level, we’re looking to get him back out there and get some games together towards the end of the year."

In some good news, the Hawks look set to regain key defender James Blanck.

Blanck missed last week's win against North Melbourne after entering concussion protocols from an incident during the previous week.

"He'll have full contact training on Thursday, and all going well, he'll be available to play on the weekend."

Hawthorn is set to announce its team for Saturday's game at Thursday at 6.20pm on hawthornfc.com.au.
