Season summary:

This season marked Blanck’s first full year in the AFL system after arriving to the club in the 2022 mid-season draft. Often tasked with playing against the opposition’s best key forward, Blanck’s physicality and effort were on clear display in 2023. At just 22 years of age, Blanck appears to have all the tools to become the club’s key defender, with his strong ability to compete in the air. His strong form earned him a new contract for one more year, keeping him in the brown and gold until at least the end of 2024.

Best AFL game:

A stand-out game for Blanck came in Round 22 in his side's nail-biting win against the Western Bulldogs where he was matched up against Aaron Naughton. The 196cm backman didn't look out of place, keeping the dangerous Bulldogs forward goalless - the only defender to do so this season.

How the coaches saw him:

“Blancky showed a really good year of growth and learning across his 15 games. The jobs he gets given each doesn’t get any harder, he played on the best key forward every week. I think the reason the boys love playing with him is that he is so physical, his effort is always 100 per cent. He is still so young in his career, I think he is only going to keep improving and we’ll see him get more and more confident the more he plays on those dangerous key forwards. A big off-season and he’ll keep getting stronger, getting fitter, and then honing in on his defensive craft and looking at ways he can continue to get better.” – Kade Simpson
