Hawthorn has secured the services of Mabior Chol and added a 2023 third-round draft selection after reaching a trade deal with the Gold Coast Suns on the final day of the Continental Tyres AFL Trade Period.

In exchange for Chol and pick No. 62 in this year’s national draft, the Hawks will send the Suns a future second-round draft selection, after receiving that pick from Brisbane earlier today.

Having kicked a team-high 44 goals in his first season at the Suns in 2022, the 26-year-old key forward/ruckman will look to build upon his 61-game career at the Hawks.

The 200cm big man most recently spearheaded the Suns’ VFL premiership campaign, which included a five-goal preliminary final performance, before adding four more majors in the decider.

Hawthorn National List and Recruiting Manager Mark McKenzie said Chol’s addition would strengthen Hawthorn’s forward stocks.

“With more than 60 games under his belt, Mabior will help complement our young and developing list with his best footy definitely still ahead of him,” McKenzie said.

“We can see Mabior making an immediate impact, obviously up forward, whilst also having great versatility to pinch-hit in the ruck.

”It’s particularly pleasing Mabior wanted to come to our club to be part of our exciting journey, and I’m sure he will relish this opportunity.”
