The Hawks Museum is open again for 2024!

Two early visitors to the Museum arrived from Warragul and both had memories of Hawthorn. Recruited from Bena in the Bass Valley League, John Brookes was vice-captain of the Hawthorn Under 17 side that played in the 1973 Grand Final against Richmond.

The following year, he was promoted to the Under 19s under coach Brian Coleman, making the 1974 2nd semi-final side in a back pocket. He returned to Gippsland, becoming a Senior Sergeant in the Victoria Police. He received an OAM for services to the Gippsland Region.

It was also a great pleasure to welcome his mate, Jack Huxtable OAM, a former VFL Commissioner and a stalwart of Latrobe Valley Football, especially with the Morwell Football Club. He has a connection to Hawthorn, too, working with Club Legend Graham Arthur as a regional director of the VCFL during the 1980s.

The Hawks Museum is open 9am to 4pm, Monday, Tuesday, Thursday & Friday, or by appointment.  For further information call (03) 9535 3075 or 0427 455 723.
