Initially drafted to Hawthorn as a raw defender, Emily Everist used 2023 to develop into a defender who could move up the ground.

Along with playing in the backline, the 19-year-old was trialled on the wing after continuing to impress with her endurance and showing promising signs in that same position while playing for Box Hill.

Having only played footy for a few years before coming across to the Hawks, Everist used 2023 to leverage knowledge off Hawthorn's more experienced players like Emily Bates.

It translated well on the field, with Everist playing nine of a possible 10 games in 2023, building on her four appearances with the club in 2022.
