James Worpel has topped the coaches votes following his superb performance in Hawthorn's 36-point loss against Geelong on Easter Monday at the MCG.

Worpel, 25, received nine votes from the coaches after recording 36 disposals, nine inside 50s, eight score involvements, six clearances and five marks in difficult conditions.

The midfielder topped it off with a game-high 838 metres gained and 14 contested possessions, culminating in him winning the Paul Dear Memorial Medal in recognition of his courageous efforts on the day.

Worpel was the only Hawk to poll votes in the clash, highlighting just how good he was in a losing side.

The Hawks will now seek to win their first game of the season against Collingwood on Sunday night at Adelaide Oval in what will be the final game of Gather Round.
