Hawthorn defender Karl Amon will make his return to Sam Mitchell's team on Saturday afternoon at the MCG.

The 29-year-old missed last week's Centenary Match win over Richmond due to a concussion sustained against West Coast the previous round.

Amon comes into the team in place of fellow defender Tom Barrass, who Mitchell confirmed would be managed when speaking to the media on Thursday morning.

Meanwhile in the midfield, Josh Ward has been named to play his 50th game.

Hawthorn Executive General Manager of Football Rob McCartney welcomed Amon back into the side.

"It's great to get Karl back in the team," McCartney said.

"He obviously started the year strongly and we look forward to his influence with ball in hand rebounding off our back half."
