Nick ‘Wizard’ Watson is set to weave his magic for the Hawks until at least the end of 2029, after the spell-binding youngster waved his wand on a three-year contract extension.
In only his second season, the 20-year-old has cast a spell over the entire competition, enchanting footy fans as one of the most watchable players in the league.
With elite speed, agility and goal sense, Watson is steadily building an electric highlight reel, with several breathtaking goals and game-breaking moments just 38 games into his career.
Fresh from booting 25 goals in his debut season, Watson has levitated his sorcery skills to the next level in 2025, adding a further 30 majors this season (1.5 goals per game).
Demonstrating a serious appetite to perform on the big stage, the former No.5 draft pick was Hawthorn’s leading goalkicker during last year’s finals series, with seven goals in two games.
Hawthorn National Recruiting and List Manager Mark McKenzie said Watson’s extension was exciting news for the club.
“While Nick’s elite talent is something that captivates us all, what impresses us the most is his continued development, adding further layers to his game,” McKenzie said.
“With his elite speed, pressure and footy smarts, Nick’s ability to create repeated scoring opportunities for his teammates and himself is real weapon for our side.
“At just 20 years of age, Nick’s ceiling is as high as any other player and we see him as a key piece of our future, continuing to bring smiles to the faces of the brown and gold faithful for years to come.”
