Hawthorn ruck Lucy Wales is recovering from surgery following a procedure to rectify an appendicitis issue which forced her to be a late out from the side's Round 10 clash last week.
High Performance Manager Aaron Kellett provided an update on Wales who remains in hospital.
Kellett also provided a promising update on Najwa Allen and Mikayla Williamson and their respective hamstring injuries. As well as further updates on Jess Vukic (concussion), Emily Bates (SC joint) and Bridie Hipwell (leg).
Najwa Allen (Hamstring) – Available
“Naj played in the scrimmage on the weekend, got through that really well. So she’ll train fully this week and pending completion of that, she’ll be available for this weekend.”
Mikayla Williamson (Hamstring) – Test
“Miki’s progressed really well, she’s cleared her clinical and her strength markers that we’ve set for her, she’s progressing her running speed and will train fully this week. Pending completion of that, and how well she pulls up, she’ll be a test but hopefully available for this week.”
Jess Vukic (Concussion) – Protocols
“Jess resumed the first part of her protocols today, she returned to running. We’ll obviously step her through the return to play protocols as per the concussion guidelines and pending that we’ll know when she’ll be available.”
Lucy Wales (Appendix) – TBC
“Lucy presented with some abdominal pain on the morning of the game on Friday, our medical team did a great job of mobilising the assessments and investigations necessary to have a look at that, they revealed appendicitis which did require surgery. That surgery took place on Saturday morning in Adelaide, Penny’s in hospital recovering, she’s healthy, we’ll need to see her discharged before we get an idea of being able to map out a return to play plan at this stage. But thankfully she’s safe and healthy and recovering well.”
Emily Bates (SC joint) – TBC
“Emily’s resumed running this week which is always good for Emily. We’ve still got upper body loading to come back online, once that happens we’ll get an understanding about how we might look to return football progressions, so at this stage we’re still yet to determine a return to play date, but Emily’s tracking really well, it’s great to have her back on the track.”
Bridie Hipwell (Leg) – Season
“Another progression this week, Bridie’s fully weight-bearing so she’s getting around without any crutches this week. Is progressing through her strength loading, progressing through some of her progression in the pool, she’s somewhere between two and four weeks of beginning to run. So it’s great to see Bridie moving forward with her return to play.”
