Hawthorn Vice-Captain Eliza West has recommitted to the Club until at least the end of the 2027 season.

The 28-year-old inked the contract extension following a stellar second season in brown and gold, where she shouldered the captaincy in six of Hawthorn's 14 matches.

West led from the front with a team-high average of 22.6 disposals per game, ranking among the top 20 midfielders in the league.

She backed that up with 5.6 tackles and 3.8 clearances per game, highlighting her tenacity and elite ability to win the ball at the source.

West then capped off her home-and-away season with a career-high 31 disposals against North Melbourne in Round 12.

Since being traded to the Hawks from Melbourne at the end of 2023, the vice-captain has not missed a game in the brown and gold - a testament to her durability and toughness as an in-and-under inside midfielder.

After taking home the Club’s best and fairest award in her first season as a Hawk, West finished a close second by a single vote in 2025, alongside taking home Hawthorn’s Competitor Award and Best in Finals Award.

On top of playing her 50th AFLW game in Round 1 this year, West already has a long list of accolades in just two seasons with the Hawks.

Hawthorn AFLW General Manager Keegan Brooksby said West's re-signing was an important one.

“Eliza has an outstanding addition since arriving at our Club at the end of 2023, immediately being voted in as vice-captain and not missing a game over two seasons,” Brooksby said.

“Along with her elite ball-winning ability, Eliza’s skillset as a leader is incredibly important to our group as we chase our first piece of silverware in the AFLW competition.

“Boasting more than 50 games under her belt, including back-to-back best and fairest podium finishes, we still believe Eliza's best football is still ahead of her - she's the sort of player that is always looking at ways to add further layers to her game.”
