In one of the most highly anticipated injury updates of the year, it can be revealed that Hawthorn Head Physiotherapist Andrew Lambart will be sidelined for 1-52 weeks as a result of injuries to both of his hamstrings.
Following an incident during Hawthorn's Round 8 draw with Collingwood, the respected physio is now set to miss his first game at the elite level in 20 years, in what will be a major blow to Hawthorn's medical team.
Elsewhere, Mabior Chol is inching closer to a return, while Calsher Dear has been added to the injury list following an adductor strain.
Will Day has also taken another step in his recovery from a shoulder injury, fully training with the team at Tuesday's main training session.
Hawthorn High Performance Manager Peter Burge provided an update on each player below.
James Blanck - Shoulder (1 week)
"He’s resumed training this week with the group, and he’ll be full contact next week. We’ll expect him to play VFL next week."
Mabior Chol - Hamstring (1-2 weeks)
"He’s resumed some of the drills with the main group today and will do continued training for the rest of the week. The VFL have got a bye. He’ll jump in with a session there on Thursday, and then next week he’ll be back full training with the group. Then we’ll reassess for Round 10 or Round 11, which game he’ll return to match play."
Calsher Dear - Adductor (1-2 weeks)
"He just pulled up at training on Sunday with adductor soreness, and we sent him for a scan. He’s got an adductor strain, unfortunately, which will rule him out of this week. These things can turn around quite quickly, so we’ll reassess next week how he recovers and whether he resumes full training next week or the week after."
Will Day - Shoulder (2-3 weeks)
"He fully trained with full contact and did every drill with the group today. He’s training really well, feeling really good. He’s been prepared really well by Jack Price and Zane Leonard, our S&C coach and rehab coordinator. He’s gone through a fair process of reconditioning, and now we’re really in the final stages of full training and putting back-to-back sessions together as well as topping him up with some extra conditioning at match level conditions."
