Veteran Hawthorn forward Jack Gunston has been voted in as the Round 9 Superhero of the Week following his outstanding performance in the Hawks' 15-point loss against Fremantle on Thursday night at Optus Stadium.

The 34-year-old set the tone in the first half with five goals alone across the first two quarters of the game.

He finished the night with 6.2, 11 disposals, nine marks (eight of those coming inside 50) and eight score involvements.

It was also a record-breaking night for Gunston as he overtook premiership teammate Jarryd Roughead in the AFL's all-time goalkickers list.

He now sits 41st in the league's rankings with 584 goals across his career.

Gunston and the Hawks will now turn their attention to the opening week of Sir Doug Nicholls Round, where they take on Melbourne on Saturday at 4.15pm.
