The Rundown

Sitting on six wins each as they entered this Round 13 clash, this match-up posed as an important game for the 10th-placed Adelaide and 11th-placed Hawthorn’s season. The first half started just as the two sides’ ladder positioning might have suggested. A low-scoring tussle with neither side able to provide much in the way of scoreboard pressure. But the second half took on an entirely different identity as the Hawks booted 9.7 to the Crows’ 1.3 to run away comfortable 56-point victors.

The Star

When the whips were cracking, Jaeger O’Meara was front and centre, pivotal in the Hawks’ dominant third term. Finishing the game with 30 disposals, eight tackles and 10 clearances, four of the 24-year-old’s clearances came in the third quarter as he compelled his side to its seventh win of the season.

The Moment

With the Hawks taking a four-point lead into the main break, something was required to break the game open in the second half. That something became James Sicily who, roaming down from the defensive line, kicked three three-quarter goals to turn the match from a tight slog into a comfortable victory for the Hawks.

"We were playing well (in the opening half), but we were frustrated because we had 33 inside 50s for three goals – and that's not going to win you too many games of footy. In the second half we took our chances a bit better, opened up the space a bit better and just directed our opportunities to teammates in better space in the third quarter and that split the game open, which was really pleasing." - Clarkson
