Hawthorn running machine Isaac Smith has once again defended his crown, taking out the club’s 2.2km time trial.
It was far from an easy win, with the veteran wingman pushed the whole way by a trio of his teammates aged 21 years old or younger.
Smith greatest challenge over the 2.2km journey was from second-year Hawk Will Golds, but the 30-year-old was ultimately able to hold off the keen youngster.
It is now five years running that the 30-year-old has led the Hawks pack, with his second-place finish to Billy Hartung in 2015 the only blip on Smith’s otherwise perfect record.
Following Golds was a pair of Hawks determined to take the next step in 2020, with Dylan Moore edging out Harry Morrison to grab the final place on the podium.

Captain Ben Stratton also delivered a strong performance to round out the top five.
Meanwhile, renowned endurance king Tom Scully also lived up to his reputation, taking out the repeat efforts test.
Physical Performance Manager Luke Boyd said the fitness staff were buoyed by the overall condition of the group.
“We were really pleased with the number of guys who were able to complete testing today,” Boyd said.
“We witnessed several strong performances.
“I was particularly pleased with Jackson Ross in the 2.2km trial who bested his previous record.
“There were also several who impressed in the repeat efforts test with Mitch Lewis, Jack Scrimshaw and Jacob Koschitzke all putting in personal best efforts.”
