Box Hill went down to Carlton in trying conditions at Box Hill City Oval, suffering a 23-point loss in Round 16.
Senior Coach David Mirra said his side had its opportunities on Sunday afternoon, but were unable to convert when it mattered.
“Carlton jumped us in the opening term, playing superior football to dominate clearances and win the territory battle,” Mirra said.
“Off the back of this, they locked the ball in their forward half, amassing a massive inside 50 differential to hand us a 29-point deficit at the first break.
“The contest levelled out after quarter-time and we had our opportunities in the final term to put real pressure on Carlton, but we just couldn't execute in front of goal.”
Mirra detailed the performance of each AFL-listed Hawk below.
Finn Maginness (27 disposals, six tackles, four clearances)
“Returned to playing after a little lay off, Finn played through the midfield and got through the game. He won five clearances and laid six tackles and won a lot of the football.”
Flynn Perez (26 disposals, six intercept possessions, four marks)
“He played across half back in his first game back from AFL level. He was able to provide the team with lots of drive from our back end with seven rebound 50’s. He was tough in testing conditions.”
Cam Narin (23 disposals, five marks, four intercept possessions)
“Cam played a combination of forward and wing and given the type of day it was, impressed with collecting 22 disposals. He covered the ground well generating 13 uncontested possessions and defending the open side of play.”
Bodie Ryan (22 disposals, four intercept possessions, three tackles)
“Bodie put together a solid game in defence, generating great run off the backline and showcasing his trademark fend off. Known for his toughness and aggression, he thrived in the challenging conditions, prompting a move into the midfield during the second half where his physical presence was a real asset.”
Cody Anderson (Two goals, 22 disposals, five tackles)
“Cody has put together a really consistent and solid three weeks of football. His possession numbers have been high, and he has been hitting the scoreboard. He mixed his time between forward and midfield. He generated the most inside 50’s for the team with nine.”
Max Ramsden (One goal, 21 hitouts, 16 disposals)
“Max made his return to the field, playing his first game since a syndesmosis injury against Footscray sidelined him shortly after his selection in the mid-season draft. He played really well as a half forward and then going through the midfield. He provided great run and tackling pressure.”
Matt LeRay (14 disposals, three tackles, three marks)
“Playing on the wing, he did well to find the football but was let down at times by some fumbles and unforced errors. Matt continues to work on his fundamentals and his explosive run which has become such a weapon for him.”
Aidan Schubert (11 disposals, four marks, three score involvements)
“While he has been incredibly consistent throughout the season, he found it challenging to get into the game on Saturday. He did show some positive signs in the final term by taking a couple of nice marks inside 50, though he unfortunately couldn't capitalise on those opportunities on goal.”
Calsher Dear (11 disposals, two goals, two tackles)
“Limited opportunities, however he still managed to kick two goals. He created a contest in the air bringing the ball to ground to give our smalls a chance.”
Jaime Uhr-Henry (Seven hitouts, four disposals, three intercept possessions)
“As he continues to develop his game and ruck craft, Jamie faced a challenging first quarter against a strong opponent. However, he adapted well at the first break and competed strongly for the remaining three quarters. We look forward to seeing him build on this performance this week.”
James Blanck (One disposal, one tackle)
“First game back after a hamstring injury. He played limited minutes, finishing the game at half time. He got through the game and will now look to build more game time this coming week. He showed some positive signs of defending at his best.”
