Hawthorn defender Noah Mraz has spent the night in hospital after suffering a kidney injury in Saturday’s Round 20 match against Essendon.

Mraz reported mild abdominal pain after the match and, out of an abundance of caution, was sent to hospital for further testing.

Test results have revealed a low-grade kidney laceration.

Hawthorn Head Doctor Liam West said Mraz was assessed post-game and, after experiencing further discomfort, was sent to hospital.

“Noah’s health and wellbeing is our number one priority. As soon as it became apparent that he had the abdominal pain, we arranged for him to go to hospital for further testing,” West said.

“At this stage, we don’t believe Noah will require surgery; however, he will not be available for a number of weeks."

The club will provide a further update on Noah and a timeline for his recovery in the coming days.
