Box Hill pulled away in the final term to walk away 31-point victors after a tight tussle with North Melbourne in Round 19.

The Hawks trailed by three at quarter-time, scores were level at the half and were down by two at the last break, before a strong final term with six goals to one, set up the victory.

Senior Coach David Mirra said it was a hard-fought victory that holds the side in good stead as finals football nears.

“With the competition so tight and finals positions on the line, securing this win was crucial,” Mirra said.

“It was a genuine grind for most of the day until we managed to pull away in the final ten minutes.

“It was fantastic to see the team put together a consistent, high standard performance for the majority of the match, generating 65 inside-50s and converting that pressure into 33 scoring shots.

“We now head into a bye to freshen up before facing Casey in the final round, another high-stakes clash as we push for a top four finish.”

Mirra detailed the performances of the 11 AFL-listed Hawks in Round 19 below.

Sam Butler (Three goals, 25 disposals, seven marks)

“Delivered another standout performance at this level. Playing primarily up forward with brief stints through the midfield, he made his mark on the scoreboard with three goals highlighted by a massive bomb from beyond 50m. He was also strong at the stoppages, winning five clearances.”

Max Beattie (Two goals, 23 disposals, seven marks)

“A dominant, highly influential outing as one of our best on ground. Splitting his time between inside midfield and forward, Max's elite foot skills repeatedly set up targets inside 50. Finishing with two goals, good things happened every time the ball was in his hands.”

Matt LeRay (20 disposals, 10 marks, three tackles)

“Continued a strong three-week block of consistent form. Working hard on the wing, LeRay's work rate was exceptional, regularly tracking back to support the defence to pull down 10 marks. Showed great composure and clean foot skills when running with the ball.”

Cam Nairn (19 disposals, six marks, five inside 50s)

“Split his time between the wing and half-forward. Executed his running patterns well, holding structural balance to halt opposition transition while remaining a reliable option in attack. His unselfish running opened up space for teammates and his disposal was sharp throughout.”

Max Ramsden (One goal, 20 hitouts, 18 disposals)

“A monster effort in the ruck. Competed fiercely both in the air and at ground level, hauling in 10 marks, including several strong contested grabs. Sealed the win in the last quarter with a fantastic smother followed by a big mark and goal inside 50.”

Will McCabe (17 disposals, six marks, one clearance)

“Played to his strengths on the wing, exploiting match-up advantages to pull down key overhead marks and using the footy with great decision making.”

Calsher Dear (Two goals, 16 disposals, eight marks)

“Put together his best game of the season. He was a constant threat, recording eight marks and eight scoring opportunities to finish with 2.4. His work up the ground was equally impressive, driving the ball inside 50 on seven occasions through stints in the midfield.”

Matt Hill (Three goals, 13 disposals, three tackles)

“Produced a proper highlight reel. Hilly booted three very exciting goals, putting his elite speed and pinpoint accuracy on full display. A dangerous matchup all day.”

James Blanck (13 disposals, six intercept possessions, four marks)

“His best performance since returning from injury. Defensively sound as always, Blanck also took the game on with ball in hand. Highlighted by a crucial 1v1 save inside defensive 50, he provided great rebound and attack off the backline.”

“The Beast was in full flight. Anderson brought relentless pressure, laying four tackles and thriving in the contest. He set up multiple goals through sheer toughness over the footy and showed great composure under pressure.”
