Hawthorn is delighted to announce it has re-signed Sam Mitchell as AFL Senior Coach for a further three seasons.
With Mitchell already contracted for 2027, this new multi-year extension ensures he will remain at the helm of the Hawks until at least the end of 2030.
After steering the club to its first finals victory in almost a decade in 2024, Mitchell led the Hawks to within one win of a Grand Final appearance last season.
In season 2026, Mitchell secured his side’s third consecutive finals appearance during just his fifth season in charge.
Earlier this year, the 43-year-old became just the sixth person in Hawthorn’s history to coach 100 or more VFL/AFL games.
With 60 wins under his belt as coach, Mitchell is now just one victory away from moving into fourth place on Hawthorn’s all-time coaching wins list.
The former premiership captain’s playing CV is among the game's most renowned, boasting five Peter Crimmins Medals, four premierships, three All-Australians, and a Brownlow Medal.
His 329 career games cemented his status as one of the game’s most revered figures, earning him a spot in both the Hawthorn Hall of Fame and Australian Football Hall of Fame.
