Inaugural Hawk and foundation AFLW player Kaitlyn Ashmore will this weekend line up for her 100th AFLW game this Sunday afternoon at the Kennedy Community Centre.

Ashmore began her AFLW career at the Brisbane Lions in 2017, playing 16 games for the Lions over two seasons. She played a key role in the Brisbane’s inaugural seasons, featuring in two Grand Finals (2017 & 2018).

She then returned home to Victoria to help establish North Melbourne’s AFLW side as an inaugural Kangaroo from 2019. She played 33 games over four seasons, including claiming the club’s Leading Goalkicker award in 2020.

As Hawthorn’s AFLW team was established in 2022, Ashmore joined the brown and gold as a marquee expansion signing ahead of the Hawks maiden season.

She made her club debut in the Hawthorn's first ever game at Marvel Stadium, which coincidentally was her 50th AFLW career game.

Since joining the brown and gold, her durability, speed and experience have been instrumental in driving the Hawks from an emerging side into a genuine finals’ contender. Just last week, the 34-year-old chalked up her 50th club game in the brown and gold.

Ashmore joined SEN’s The Run Home to chat about her upcoming milestone and what it means to her.

“I haven’t taken the time to really process, I feel like it’s gone so quick, 11 seasons over the 10 years,” Ashmore said.

“And each time I’ve joined the new club, so I started at Brisbane, that was the very start of AFLW so that was a big eye-opening experience, moving from Ballarat, getting out of my comfort zone.

“And then coming back down to Kangas, so new team coming into AFLW as well and then coming across to Hawthorn.

“Every year it’s getting bigger and better and the professionalism is growing as well, so it’s hard to pinpoint like moments but everyone getting around us, all the crowds and having little kids come to our games and seeing the little girls put on our jerseys.

“Because when I was growing up it was all the ‘girly’ sports as you’d say like netball, and I did athletics, so no one did football so to know that the young girls are picking up a footy and playing is really exciting.”
