Presenting Blast from the Past!

Over the month of September, we will be taking you on a trip down memory lane as we look back at various moments in Hawthorn history that have occurred on the same date.


Today we rewind back to 1935…

 

Back-to-back-to-back.

A term synonymous with Hawthorn and its recent premiership golden era.

But it wasn’t all that long ago that stringing three consecutive home and away season wins together was a feat worth celebrating at Hawthorn.

Ok, it was a little while ago – 84 years to be exact.

It was 84 years ago today that Hawthorn recorded its first “win-win-win”.

It was the final three weeks of the 1935 season, the club’s 11th as a member of the VFL competition.

Up to that point, Hawthorn had won just 33 of its first 184 games. 

It was a tough time to be a Maybloom.

But wins over Essendon then Geelong then Fitzroy gave cause for at least some form of celebration.

These days Hawthorn supporters thankfully have a bit more to be grateful for…
