Ben McEvoy is the latest in a string of Hawks to re-sign with the club.

The ruckman put pen to paper on a one-year contract extension this week, keeping him in the brown and gold until at least the end of 2020.

The announcement comes at a fitting time for the Hawks’ big man, who is arguably enjoying his best season to date.

McEvoy has averaged a career-high 15.2 disposals, 32.3 hit outs and one goal a game across his six appearances in 2019.

According to GM-Football Graham Wright, the club was pleased to have locked in another important player so early in the season.

“We’re delighted to have Ben sign on for the 2020 season,” Wright said.

“He has become such an important and consistent player for us, and he seems to be only getting better with age.

“He’s also a great role model to his teammates - his leadership both on and off the field is held in high regard.”

After starting his career with St Kilda via the 2007 National Draft, McEvoy crossed to Waverley at the end of 2013, quickly becoming a pivotal member of Hawthorn’s 2014 and 2015 premiership-winning sides.

Into his sixth campaign with the Hawks, the 29-year-old was voted into the leadership group by his peers at the start of 2019 – a responsibility he appears to be taking in his stride.
