Young forward Jackson Ross announced himself in the VFL season opener with five goals against Casey on Sunday.

Ross kicked four of his five majors in a dominant first half, as he helped the Hawks to an important five-goal lead into the main break.

The 19-year-old then booted his fifth to kick off another dominant quarter in the third which put the Hawks victory beyond a shadow of a doubt.

Pick 71 in the 2017 national draft, Ross said his focus in 2019 is on delivering a consistent level of football.

“I just want to keep playing good footy and bide my team in the VFL.

“I want to work as hard as I can to put on some more size and then hopefully be ready to be put up with the big boys.”

Ross said he has modelled his game on teammate Jack Gunston’s style since his arrival at the game.

But the confident youngster also sounded a warning to his All Australian colleague.

“Pretty much since I first got here, I’ve been following Gunners around.

“I’ve just been trying to take in as much as I can from him.

“But then hopefully one day kick him out of the team.”
