Midfielder Liam Shiels is Hawthorn’s Round 14 MVP for his impressive performance against Sydney on Friday night.

Despite the Hawks going down to the Swans by 19 points, Shiels never gave in, highlighted by his team-high 11 tackles.

The 28-year-old recorded the most contested possessions of the Hawks as well, with 11 of his 25 touches contested.

His goal at the 22-minute mark of the final term, the side’s last of the game, put the cherry on top of a strong individual effort in trying conditions.

Shiels has been in strong form over the past fortnight, averaging 28 disposals, eight inside 50s and 6.5 clearances.
